What you need to do to survive can be a very stressful time for many of us right now, and since I am in need of myself to go from a house to an apartment motivated me to write this article. The top 10 tips for moving safely during COVID 19 is something I am researching for myself, and since others might be in this situation as well, I thought this would be a very helpful article for other people besides just me.
You Need A Good Plan
If you are like me and maybe not experienced, you might be wise to come up with a good plan. I have no family members able to assist me, so I am on my own with this change in my life. The reason I am needing to go from a house to an apartment is due to my health, so I am quite anxious about living among a large group of people when the COVID-19 is taking so many lives. Since I have no choice but to do this, I read my first step would be to come up with a good plan. so according to Movers Folder, this is what we need to consider.
How Will You Get Your Stuff From A to B
Since I am absolutely alone with this major change, I must first figure out my options on how to get my stuff from my home to the apartment building? For anyone with a low-income or fixed-income like me, you will need to figure out how to make this work? I have come up with two choices since I am on this quest alone, so I am able to rent a Uhaul truck and do all the moving on my own. The other option I am considering is getting a moving company to do the work for me. Now you must decide which one of these options is possible with your income, so you will need to check the prices of renting a truck or hiring a company as your first step. As for me, I now know my two best options, and I just have to see how much money I have to work with when the time arrives.
Is Video Chat An Option
Even though Movers Folders suggests using video chat on a mobile device to provide the company what they will be moving, I am not in the situation to do this. Since I don’t have this option this is not an option for my plan, but if this is something you would be interested in doing this prevents you from having to interact with the company in person. This is a very safe option to consider, but it just is not an option for me. So if you are not going to use this, you can easily make a list of what you need them to relocate to your new dwelling. This will make it less anxious for you, and this still is a very safe strategy to consider.
How To Pack Your Stuff Yourself
I already have everything packed in boxes that I am not using right now, so by doing this you are avoiding being overwhelmed when it is time to move to your new place. Now you are able to pay some companies to do the packing for you, but remember that will be an extra fee that you will need to check into before the time comes to be on your way. Even if I had the money, I would do this myself. Why pay a company when I can save money, and this is not as time-consuming and difficult once you get started one tip I recommend is for you to mark what room every box needs to go in, and this will be a time-saver when you begin unpacking. You do have the option to purchase your boxes and supplies from the company, but if you want to save money your best option is to purchase them from another source. So you can order your supplies from Amazon for one, but you also can check your post office as well. I ordered mine from my post office online, and they arrived at my home in just a few days. The best part is I didn’t have to pay for anything, so this is an option to save even more money.
Staying Safe During Your Moving
Remember to wear your mask during your moving, and also do your best to stay at a safe distance from other people. I know this is going to be more difficult for me since I am relocating to an apartment building, but I am hoping and praying all goes well. One thing that Movers Folders recommends is to allow the company to do all the work, and this will prevent you from becoming closer to them than is safe. I am sure the workers are not infected, but you just don’t want to take that risk when it comes to this virus. This really is one of the most important top 10 tips for moving safely during COVID 19.
We all know how important washing our hands regularly and using hand sanitizer is, but we must be doing this even more during our going from our old home to our new home. I am sure the company will provide its workers with masks and even gloves, but even so, we must be extra careful when it comes time to start unpacking. I must admit I am anxious about relocating at this time, but due to my health, I need to do this to be able to take better care of myself. It is also wise to keep anyone in your family safe during this time, so this is something else we must consider when making this change in our lives.
More Safety Precautions To Consider
We all are very worn out from dealing with all these safety changes in 2020, but we must be extra careful when relocating by taking extra precautions.
- Wearing Masks
- Hand Washing
- Hand Sanitizer
- Avoid Touching Our Faces
Until 2020’s pandemic, I never realized how much we touch our faces with our hands. Many of us including me do this without even thinking, so being more conscious of what we are doing with our hands is an important precaution to make a point focusing on.
Don’t Forget About Your Pets
Now medical experts are saying our pets are also vulnerable, so being a pet owner of a Miniature Australian Shepherd this is important information. If you have neighbors who would allow your dog or cat to stay with them just until you are relocated this would be great, but for me, I am completely on my own. If this is your case as well, you can keep your baby either in their crate or in another room. I plan not to take my canine companion with me until I am completely moved in, and even though this will break my heart, I know this is the best way to keep him safe. Cats and ferrets are more vulnerable than dogs, so if you have either of these this is even more important for you to do. This also is a good plan for those of you with children, and hopefully, you have neighbors who would not mind keeping your kids and pets for a little while.
By any chance, if anyone including you are feeling unwell, you should cancel your activities for that day. I know this would be an inconvenience, but you are putting so many people at risk by going ahead with your plan that day. So knowing the symptoms is something we all need to know, and if you or anyone in your home is experiencing these please cancel your moving day.
- Dry Cough
- Extreme Fatigue
- Aches and Pains
- Sore Throat
- Loss of Taste
- Loss of Smell
- Skin Rash
- Discoloration of Toes and Fingers
- Struggling to Breathe
- Chest Pain or Pressure
I will admit some of these symptoms can be caused other than by the virus, but it is better to be safe than sorry. People with other health issues might experience these as part of their other health problems, so you know yourself the best to understand if this is normal for you or possibly signs you have been infected?
Making Your New Home Safe
The apartment building I am going to be living in the near future disinfects every apartment, so this does reassure me my new home is going to be safe for my Miniature Australian Shepherd and myself. For those of you who are not so lucky, you really should make the plan to have your new home disinfectant before allowing anyone who is vulnerable including your pets move in. Remember this is even more important if you are having a company move your stuff, and be sure to get rid of all your packing boxes as soon as possible just to be on the safe side. This is another top 10 tips for moving safely during COVID 19 that is very important to know, so I do hope this article has given you some things to consider that you might not have thought about on your own?
Steps To Find The Right Company Near You
I know from my own experience choosing the right company can be a very stressful experience, and sadly where I live my choices are very slim. As I shared earlier in this article, I have decided on using UHaul for my moving day. One reason is they are very affordable, and the other reason is they are the closes company near me. What you must realize is companies that charge you mileage starts from where they are coming from, so if I choose another option I would be paying much more than going with the options I have chosen. For anyone, interested here are the steps provided by The Moving Blog, and since they specialize in blogging about moving they should know what they are talking about.
- The first step they recommend is to get free quotes, and this sounds like a very good step to start making your plan.
- Trustworthy companies are the next step, and local companies are your best choice if you are only moving within the town you are living in right now.
- Avoid dealing with any that will only give you a quote via phone or email, you want them to come to your home to actually see your stuff and give you an accurate quote.
- Once you have the prices of the ones you have chosen, you will want to consider all of their prices, services, and options to compare them.
- Be sure you are considering the best ones in your local area, and by doing this it will assure you of a less stressful experience on moving day.
- Checking their websites is also a very good idea, you can check for any hidden costs or services that will assist you in determining if they are right for you.
- Any of the ones on your list that is a part of the American Moving And Storage Association are your most reliable choices, and you can visit their website with the link above if you wish to.
