You now understand how to research for keywords, and the last article taught you what to look for in keywords. You need to understand your readers, so today you will learn why it is important to identify your target audience. I will also be sharing with you the purchase habits of potential customers, and you really want to take notes today.
In 2015, the Federal Trade Commission released its new rules for Disclosure Compliance. These rules are set in place to ensure that readers or viewers of web media (blogs, Youtube videos, etc.) know if the blogger/presenter is sponsored, endorsed, or partnered with a different company. In blog terms, the readers need to know if the blogger is making money by sharing a link or product.
Prices are exactly the same for you if your purchase is through an affiliate link or a non-affiliate link. You will not pay more by clicking through to the link.
Understanding Your Potential Customers
Most people starting out lack the understanding of their target audience, and all you need to do is put yourself in your reader’s shoes. You really need to learn this before you start selling, so this is a very important lesson to be learned.
Important Facts You Need To Know
I have some important facts you will want to write down, you should always be keeping notes or bookmaking my posts. Don’t depend on your memory, I am providing you way too much information for you to remember everything.
- Expect your potential customer not to purchase on their first visit to your website.
- The average person might visit your website as many as 7 times before purchasing from you.
- Building trust is the key to being successful
- The majority of people are spending their money on something to solve a problem
- Your readers are more educated on your products than ever before, and most are going to research several websites including yours.
- Being completely honest with people is your best strategy, you will find repairing your reputation almost impossible.
These facts alone are priceless when selling online, so be sure to follow these all the time. Once you get a bad reputation the word will get around, and many bloggers close their business due to this very reason.
Understanding The Research Process
The first step for most people is researching, you do have impulse buyers of course. You will find the majority of shoppers are going to search for information first, and this is what makes blogging such a successful online business.
- Merchant Websites
- Customer Reviews
These are the most popular methods people use, so learning how to rank on the search engines is your bread and butter. How many times do you just buy something online, I am sure most of you rarely purchase without researching first.
Now you need to understand how to use this to your advantage, so coming up with a good strategy is the key to your success.
- Emal marketing (Newsletters)
- Social media (Followers)
- Search engine ranking
I receive more sales from my followers on social media than you might realize, and email marketing is still responsible for up to 70% of online sales.
Understanding Your Customers Decisions
I am sure you don’t just purchase the first product you find, you more likely research several from different companies. This is how most people decide who to buy from, so how do people make this decision is what you need to know.
- Product reviews
- Social media
- Search engine content
Are you starting to put yourself in your customer’s shoes, and if so this article is helping you. Feel free to leave me a comment, I would love to know if this post is providing you valuable information.
Again we need a good strategy, so we must figure a way to provide our readers the best product reviews. If they trust you enough, you will experience some sales.
- Be honest
- Positive reviews
- Negative reviews
- Compare several products
Even by doing everything right, you must gain the trust of your readers before our strategies are going to work. Just because you are not having success does not mean to abandon these strategies, you might just need to give people more time to trust your website and your information.
Ready To Purchase
We now are going to come up with a strategy for those ready to buy, and this is your easiest customer because they are anxious to purchase your products.
- Call to action text links
- Buy buttons
If the person is ready, you have no choice but to provide a way for them to purchase, I am receiving more purchases from text links and buy buttons than any other method.
How Well Do You Know Your Niche?
The better you know your niche the more success you will have, so ask yourself the following questions to find out what you need to work on.
- Do you create Google alerts to keep up with what is new?
- Have you developed the skills to communicate effectively with your readers?
- Learning to understand your customers better?
- Able to provide high-quality product reviews?
- Do you know the solutions to your customer’s problems?
By improving your knowledge in these areas, you are going to be more successful. As a blogger, you want to be able to solve your reader’s problems.
Product Keyword Research
You are missing an opportunity if you lack product keyword research skills, so in our last few articles, we were doing basic research. This type is focusing on a specific product or service, so often you can find even better words and phrases with less competition.
- Product name is included in the word or phrase
- The brand is included in your keyword
As you can see by the image above, you can find less competitive words and phrases, and this is something very few beginners are using.
What About Your Last Purchase?
Let us use you for an example, you can think back to your last purchase to learn from yourself. I have some more things for you to consider, so ask yourself these questions.
- How did you start your shopping process?
- What was your ending process?
- Did you make your purchase the same day?
- Was advertising a factor in your decision?
- Where did you first see the product?
- How much was the cost a factor?
- Did you use social media?
- What actually convinced you to purchase the product?
Many of us forget we are shoppers ourselves, so if we use ourselves for examples we can answer many of our customer’s concerns.
Getting Long-Term Customers
This is something very few of us think about, we are so concerned about getting sales we don’t address keeping them for the long term. Some of you might be loyal Amazon customers, and some of you might be loyal to Walmart instead. The point is why are you loyal to specific companies, and you will want to try to copy their success.
- Customer-friendly website navigation
- Promote sale items regularly
- Membership program
- VIP signup list
- Birthday clubs
- Free shipping
These might be some things that attract you to be loyal to a specific store, I have a certain gardening company that is my favorite. I love that they provide rare plants I can’t find anyplace else, and all my orders arrive on time with no damage to my plants.
Success Is A Learning Process
Many people are surprised that an income business is not an easy way to make money, you have to put in the time to learn how to be successful like anything else. There are several options for how to achieve this, and I shared a few below for you.
- Join a blogging community
- Enroll in online courses
- Read e-books
- Learn from other bloggers
- Youtube videos
I have used all of these options over the years, so I know that they work. You can find many of these as freebies, and having a mentor or two is never a bad idea.
Knowing Your Target Audience
Understanding your target audience is the best way to spend your time, and this permits you to provide the information and products they are searching for.
- Solve problems
- Provide products they will use and want
- Talk to your readers
- Ask your readers for feedback
- Stay within your chosen niche
Many bloggers get distracted from their niche, and this is a big mistake. You will have more success sticking to what your target audience is interested in, so you just are not able to get started jumping from niche to niche.
What Is Coming Next?
My next article will be on setting up your business email, I am guilty of not doing this myself. That is why I am going to provide you an article on this, and is this really important for your business success?
